The Capital Area IT Council “Tech Tours” program provides local college students with opportunities to explore our community through a series of unique “live, work, and play” experiences.

On September 19, 2008, the “Tech Tours” program made a returntrip to downtown Lansing--featuring a stop at Accident Fund, for a tour of their IT department, along with visits to VisionCreative, Spartan Internet Consulting and the Michigan Department of Information Technology. Local developer Scott Gillespie walked the students through one of Lansing’s many spectacular urban lofts, before seeing the group off to the “Tavern on the Square,” where they enjoyed some good food and casual conversation.
Matt Roush, editor of the Great Lakes IT Report joined a group of 32 MSU students on a special GLITR edition “Tech Tour” on Friday, January 23, 2009. Sircon, Strategic Products and Services, and Dewpoint coordinated facility tours, and as a bonus the students traveled to East Lansing’s new Technology Innovation Center (IT incubator)—which is home to another dozen or so local tech start-ups.
The February 27, 2009 Okemos “Tech Tour” featured stops at Netvantage Marketing, Delta Dental of Michigan, and TechSmith--as well as a tour of Somerset Place Apartments in Bath. The tour concluded with a “speed-networking” activity where students interacted with local IT employers while enjoying pizza from Guido’s (yum!)
